Katharine’s other favourite detail has to be the two splendid ceramic chickens sitting at the topside of the adjoining kitchen. The chickens, once owned by the Duchess of Devonshire, has become Katharine’s favourite after she picked them up at a Sotheby’s auction.
“I adore my chickens, and the Duchess famously did too, I had the stove hood specially made to accommodate them and I look at them every day, they inspire such cheerful happiness!” said Katharine.
The Master Bedroom and Four-Poster Bedroom
A spiral staircase leads to the Master Bedroom and Four-Poster Bedroom. Featuring two antique oval mirrors above two walnut and marble chest bedside tables by Nicholas Haslam and white marble lamps either side of the bed, the Master bedroom is upholstered with Holland and Sherry & Romo to match harmoniously with the serene wallpaper by Colefax and Fowler, exuding a timeless elegance through subtlety.
The photographs of Katharine’s family and artwork of Piglet, Katharine’s beloved dog by Joseph Adolphe add memorable details to further elevate the uniqueness of the room. The exquisite fabrics, wallcoverings and trimmings by Turnell & Gigon sets a warm tone in the Four Poster Bedroom to indulge guests into the quintessential charm of England which truly come to the fore.
The Garden – An Idyllic Family Space
With each room looking out onto the attractive surrounding gardens, Katharine has put as much thought into the exterior of the property as the interior. The gardens feature numerous memorable details including a classical, timber-framed, greenhouse; charming chicken coop; attractive formally planted terrace, and a prettily decorated traditional Shepherd’s Hut under the trees beyond, making the Coach House a “flawless venue for family retreat occasions in the countryside”, as Katharine puts it.
