Hotel bookings from international travellers to Indonesia reach highest point in almost two-and-a-half years
According to new data from SiteMinder, the world’s leading open hotel commerce platform, hotels in Indonesia are now experiencing their highest volume of bookings from international guests since February 2020.
SiteMinder’s World Hotel Index, the leading indicator of hotel reservation and guest arrival trends globally, displays that so far in July, 45% of bookings to SiteMinder’s Indonesian hotels for future stays have been from international travellers — a trend that has been accelerating since February 2022 when restrictions on incoming travellers were relaxed.
Compared to prior to the pandemic, booking volumes to SiteMinder’s Indonesian hotels are currently at 94% of 2019 levels, up from a low of just 7% of 2019 levels in April 2020.
Commenting on the data and the market’s recovery, SiteMinder’s market vice president – Asia Pacific, Bradley Haines says, “With a strong reliance on international travel, Indonesia’s accommodation sector has certainly felt the repercussions of restricted global movement more than most in recent years. However, a trait of this period that’s represented in this data is the speed at which things can change.
“With thousands of both large and small hotel operators in Indonesia that contribute significantly to the country’s economy, but haven’t always had access to the technology that we can provide, there is a tremendous opportunity awaiting every Indonesian accommodation business currently, as international travel rebounds.
“As the world’s leading open hotel commerce platform, we believe in the power of technology to not only help Indonesian businesses stay open, but to thrive, as the country again welcomes the world. Our platform provides hotel operators with a single place to sell, market, manage and grow their business. It gives hoteliers flexible pathways to start, upgrade or scale their business through award-winning distribution and marketing technologies, 24/7 support and the largest ecosystem of best-in-class hotel technology integrations, apps and partners.”
SiteMinder, which has recently released the next generation of its platform to better support the accommodation industry, has worked extensively with Indonesian businesses across a long period, providing it with a unique perspective on the local landscape.
