In the end of the second quarter of 2023, PT Map Boga Adiperkasa Tbk opens the first Subway restaurant in Semarang. The 80th restaurant in Indonesia is located in Gajah Mada Semarang. The restaurant has a special mural, which illustrates the distinctiveness of Semarang through dancing and gamelan, is another noteworthy feature.
“Subway will continue to prioritize expansion throughout 2023 and open a number of locations in new cities in Java Island other than Jabodetabek. We opened 3 restaurants in Bali in Q1 and now in Q2 the first Subway restaurant in Semarang,” said Vasilis John Vasiliou, the Leader of PT Sari Sandwich Indonesia.
Along with offering better food choices, Subway adds a special touch to Semarang with murals painted on the walls of its Gajah Mada restaurant.

Another driving force behind our decision to open our first restaurant in Semarang is the fact that Semarang is one of the cities that is frequently mentioned on our social media and where its appearance has been anticipated.”

Gambang Semarang (Javanese Gamelan), two forms of dance and gamelan art that are interesting to take and adapt into an illustration work, represent the diversity of arts and culture in Semarang in particular and Java in general. A Javanese woman holding Subway’s sandwich available in the artwork represents the wide range culinary variety that will be offered in Semarang.
