Two of Bali’s most innovative brands, Syrco BASÈ and John Hardy, are joining forces for a culinary event like no other from July 27–28, 2024. With their mutual commitment to quality, ethical standards, and artisanship, this unique dining experience at John Hardy Boutique & Gallery in Seminyak will exemplify each business’ authenticity, masterful skills, and support for local communities.
After its triumphant debut in Indonesia’s dining scene at the beginning of this year, Syrco BASÈ, the pioneering culinary hub north of Ubud helmed by two Michelin-starred chef, Syrco Bakker, has already been listed among Bali’s 20 best restaurants by a major Australian media outlet, Traveller.
As a world-class luxury handcrafted jewelry brand renowned for its daring self- expression and dedication to sustainability, John Hardy is the ideal partner to present Syrco BASÈ’s dishes celebrating Bali’s artisans and Indonesia’s diverse food traditions.
Over two nights in late July, the Syrco BASÈ team will demonstrate its core values of transparency, nature, and traceability in culinary symphonies of color, structure, flavor, and texture. Based only on consciously sourced local produce, guests can look forward to dishes starring line and hand-caught seafood, succulent free-range local pork, and a sumptuous array of plant-based ingredients. To ensure an intimate atmosphere and optimize moments for storytelling, each night will be limited to a maximum of 20 guests.
In the spirit of collaboration, the Head Chef of John Hardy, Tomy Saputra, will serve a traditional dish evoking his childhood memories as a special addition to Chef Syrco’s menu. Drawing inspiration from tradition and culture, Chef Tomy translates John Hardy’s values of artisanship, community, and sustainability into innovative Indonesian dishes. Hailing from the small island of Nias in North Sumatra, he has gone on to become one of Bali’s most beloved chefs for his exquisite family-style Long Table events at John Hardy Seminyak, which have attracted a loyal following.
Meanwhile, under the expert guidance of Chef Syrco, several members of the Syrco BASÈ team have garnered international accolades, including Head of Culinary Services, Stefan de Graaf, a contender for the San Pellegrino Young Chef’s Award.
The bar team is also excelling and is led by Bar Manager, Aris Sanjaya, winner of Diageo World Class Indonesia 2024, who will represent his country later this year at the Diageo World Class Global Final in China. Syrco BASÈ constantly supports all team members to hone their skills and is well on the way to building a team of global champions, much like John Hardy has done with its team of jewelry artisans.
“Ever since I was introduced to the John Hardy brand, and learned about its core values that so closely mirror mine, I’ve hoped to collaborate with the team,” says Chef Syrco.
“This partnership is a beautiful fusion of our shared commitment to local communities, maintaining the highest ethical standards, and creating unforgettable experiences. I am excited to present a menu that will surprise and delight, while also telling a story of respect for nature and the incredible local produce and culture we have here in Bali.”
