Memuliakan Wastra: Honouring Ethnic Textile

Amandari Exhibition in Collaboration with Melati Danes Interior

Amandari, the iconic sanctuary nestled in the heart of Ubud, proudly presents “Memuliakan Wastra: Honouring Ethnic Textile,” an exhibition in collaboration with Melati Danes Interior. Running until 30th November 2024, as part of Amandari’s 35th anniversary celebrations, the exhibition’s theme is “Reconnection,” reflecting the intricate relationship between Indonesia’s rich textile heritage and its enduring cultural significance.

Curated by Melati Danes Interiors, and located across Amandari’s Lobby, Library, Upstairs Restaurant and Boutique, the exhibition showcases a captivating collection of high-quality crafts, folk art and fashion that represent the creativity and knowledge passed down through generations. The exhibition is an effort to preserve and transfer this cultural heritage into spatial works, brought to life through interior installations that tell the story of wastra.

Memuliakan Wastra is a journey that recalls and shares history through storytelling. It seeks to educate and inspire ongoing development to keep these traditions relevant through time. This journey begins with the production process and celebrates wastra as an integral part of Balinese life, ensuring that shared knowledge continues to be passed down.

Amandari, in collaboration with Melati Danes Interior, engages guests in a series of enriching activities, including a painting workshop and an informal gathering and talk titled “Weaving the Future”. The event also features a mini bazaar showcasing the work of local weavers and conservationists dedicated to preserving Balinese crafts.

Celebrating 35 years this October, this exhibition reaffirms Amandari’s longstanding commitment to preserving and celebrating Balinese culture. Amandari continues to be a haven for those seeking an authentic connection with Bali’s traditions, supporting local artisans and traditional craftsmanship.

Melati Danes Interior, renowned for its deep respect of cultural heritage, brings its expertise in curating exhibitions that honour Indonesia’s ethnic textiles. The exhibition at Amandari reflects a shared commitment to preserving these time-honoured traditions while engaging with the modern audience.

The “Memuliakan Wastra: Honouring Ethnic Textile” exhibition is open to both guests and non-residents. For further information, please visit amandari.com
