Kali Dogwear: Saving Indonesia’s Street Dogs One Collar at a Time

On the island of Bali, a company called Kali Dogwear is working to make a difference for dogs in need – both in their community and the environment – by producing high-quality, sustainable products. With a fierce dedication to animal welfare, Annika Brandt founded Kali Dogwear to do more than just sell pet gear–she’s on a mission to transform the lives of Bali’s stray dogs and support the local community.

Kali: The Inspiration Behind It All

The story of Kali Dogwear began in April 2019, when Annika rescued a street dog she found struggling for life in a river. The dog, later named Kali, meaning river in Indonesian, had been poisoned and was paralyzed. With the help of acupuncture, electroshock therapy, and intensive care, Kali made a miraculous recovery and found a forever home with Annika.

Kali’s transformation from a paralyzed street dog to a beloved pet inspired Annika to create a brand that could make a difference for other street dogs in Bali.

Products That Make a Difference

With a deep love for dogs and the earth, Kali Dogwear dedicates itself to producing beautifully crafted products that support the well-being of both – because style and sustainability should go paw-in-paw. Each item is designed with sustainability in mind, from collars and leashes to dog beds that feature coconut fiber filling, a completely compostable husk, and removable, washable canvas covers.

Kali Dogwear also create wonderful pet gear like dog carriers, travel blankets, and even charming sniff rugs, all built to last from natural and recycled materials. By vowing to keep plastic out of its production process, the company safeguards Bali’s stunning environment and creates products that – beyond their stellar quality – bring a side of eco-friendliness. This ethos drives the brand’s commitment to sustainability, ensuring that their products are safe for both pets and the planet.

With Kali Dogwear’s wholesale program, pet stores can bring in high-quality, eco-friendly accessories that appeal to customers and align with their values – all while backing a brand dedicated to creating positive change.

Giving Back to Street Dogs and the Community

At the core of Kali Dogwear is the mission of giving back to both animals and people. A portion of the company’s profits—5% in total—is donated to support street dogs in Indonesia. 2% of these funds go to local NGO dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating stray dogs, while 3% is used to fund sterilization programs, helping to control the street dog population and reduce suffering.

At Kali Dogwear, Annika is committed to a new kind of impact: one that sees local women empowered through employment, and street dogs receiving the care they deserve – a true win-win.

“Our mission goes beyond making sustainable products,” says Annika. “We’re committed to helping Indonesia’s street dogs get the care and love they deserve, while also empowering the local community, especially women.”
