“MAR” features a lineup of talented young performers, including Gabriel Harvianto as the main character with his lover named Aryati, played by Galabby Thahira.
Wawan Sofwan, the director, shared his vision, highlighting the importance of authenticity and emotional depth.
“We aim to create a production that not only honors Ismail Marzuki’s legacy but also resonates with the audience personally,” explained Sofwan. “The historical context and the characters’ emotional journeys are intricately woven into the narrative, making the story engaging and relevant.” Wawan explained while also discussed the challenges of blending fictional romance with historical facts.
“On one hand, we are dealing with a fictional love story, but on the other hand, we are working with historical facts. We researched locations in Bandung, such as Immanuel Hospital and the military barracks in Tegalega, in order for us to get a clearer picture of the scenes featured in this musical,” he further elaborated.
