Food x Art at Janu Tokyo: A Visionary Collaboration with Tomokazu Matsuyama

To celebrate its first anniversary, Janu Tokyo presents a special collaboration that merges gastronomy and art from March 15 to May 11, 2025.

Coinciding with Tomokazu Matsuyama’s first solo exhibition in Tokyo at Azabudai Hills Gallery, the partnership introduces Afternoon Tea with Art. This curated selection of sweet and savory delights is inspired by Matsuyama’s latest series, FIRST LAST. As part of this exclusive collaboration, all hotel guests will receive complimentary tickets to the exhibition and the rare opportunity to purchase one of 30 limited-edition prints of Matsuyama’s new work, Nice Quiet Hot Tears, available at Janu Tokyo’s boutique.

An Artistic Culinary Experience

Every piece in the Afternoon Tea with Art menu features intricate symbolic imagery drawn from the FIRST LAST exhibition. The first and third tiers are inspired by Passage Immortalitas, while the second tier incorporates elements from Matsuyama’s abstract painting Keep Fishin’ For Twilight, which evokes the imagery of a thousand origami cranes.

Created by Janu Tokyo’s Pastry Chef Yukie Noguchi, the meticulously crafted highlights include a New York cheesecake with white chocolate, the signature ‘Januron’ macaron, and a Sakura and berry mousse with seasonal fruits.

The savory selection features a roast beef open sandwich made with premium beef from Matsuyama’s hometown in Gifu Prefecture, as well as salmon mousse with a vegetable mille-feuille and bouillabaisse jelly with caviar. The meal is completed with plain and cherry scones, served with soya bean whipped cream, koji syrup, and strawberry jam.

“At Janu Tokyo, we aim to inspire our guests through art, culture, wellbeing, and gastronomy,” said Noriko Tanaka, General Manager of Janu Tokyo. “It is an honor to bring this concept to life as part of our first anniversary celebrations, in partnership with Tomokazu Matsuyama, a next-generation Japanese artist who shares our values and the dynamic spirit of Azabudai Hills.”
