Beyond Education: Social Impact Across the Archipelago

Alongside SCYEP, Starbucks Indonesia is commemorating its 15th Global Month of Good by reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

Since 2011, Starbucks partners worldwide have dedicated thousands of volunteer hours each April, engaging in projects that address pressing community needs. In Indonesia, the company has constructed 17 Aqua Towers—ranging from Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, to Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara—providing access to clean water in underserved areas.

Starbucks has also worked with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia to carry out a WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) initiative in West Java. The program has resulted in the construction of two new houses and 29 functioning toilets, significantly improving the health and well-being of the local community.

Another noteworthy initiative is Starbucks Books For the Future (BFF), which began in late 2022. To date, the program has collected over 14,000 books for donation to organizations including the Indonesia Street Children Organization (ISCO), Sahabat Anak Foundation, and SOS Children’s Village in six cities.

Sustainability in Every Sip

Starbucks Indonesia continues to strengthen its environmental commitment through the Greener Nusantara initiative, launched in 2018 to reduce plastic waste. This includes the use of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) cups, biodegradable paper straws, and ongoing efforts to promote reusable cups among customers.

To support plant-based lifestyles, Starbucks has once again partnered with Green Rebel Food to launch a new line of plant-based food offerings, aligning with customer preferences for healthier, more sustainable menu options.

By meeting the most essential needs of their communities, our partners are making a real difference in the lives of those around them,” Raharjanti said. “This is what Global Month of Good is all about—taking action that uplifts, empowers, and inspires.
