Karma Rottnest is redefining the spa ritual with the September 1 opening of its new destination spa featuring the global debut of Karma’s Apothecary Massage Bar. The first flagship Karma Spa to open in Australia, Karma Rottnest promises to provide guests with a sumptuous sense of place as it reflects the laidback charm of Rottnest Island.
Once inside the colonial-era island cottage, guests will discover a selection of restorative rituals deeply attuned to the senses. The extensive spa menu is rich with signature treatments such as Karma Surrender or the bespoke Be in the Moment massage designed specifically for each individual’s needs.
“Rottnest is a truly spectacular and extraordinary place with huge significance to me, both personally and professionally,” said John Spence, Founder and Chairman of Karma Group. “I am genuinely excited to be opening a Karma Spa here to allow visitors and guests to completely relax, unwind and enjoy the island’s uniquely calming, restorative ambience and even more of our very special brand of hospitality.”
Treatment highlights include the Apothecary Massage Bar where Karma Spa’s team of body workers curate personalised experiences using a selection of essential oils tailored around the five spa themes of Relax, De-stress, Activate, Meditate and Mood Booster.
Amongst the many diverse treatments is the Sleep Ceremony Ritual, which begins with a magnesium-rich warm salt scrub infused with essential oils to cleanse the skin and calm the nervous system, before a warm herbal compress is gently applied to release any tension in the body. Following this is a Himalayan Salt Stone back, neck and shoulder massage, magnesium neck application and soothing face and scalp acupressure treatment before concluding with a Sleep Well tea ceremony.
The timely Screen Escape massage concentrates on movements designed to counter issues caused by electronic device use in our busy digital world.
Karma’s therapists and spa professionals have worked closely with local artisans to create a selection of spa products that reflect the natural, pristine beauty of Rottnest and its ocean surrounds. Among these, local Western Australian-based sustainable lifestyle brand Generics is supplying a range of eco-lifestyle products to augment the spa’s focus on clean, organic living.
Karma Group Global Spa Ambassador Judy Chapman says the Spa’s ambience feels “light, fresh and easy-going” and is especially excited by the featured Apothecary Massage Bar, which is a global first for Karma.
“We want it to be a relaxed space for everyone; a relatively informal haven offering a menu of purely pleasurable experiences themed around our island vibe,” said Judy Chapman. “Beyond traditional spa experiences we’ll also be offering wellness workshops such as Saturday-night Sound Healing Baths and come summer, sauna sessions accompanied with classical music, small yoga groups, perfume-making and candle-making workshops as well as seminars by Perth’s leading fitness and health experts.”
The interiors featuring original dark timber floors with cream stone walls ooze a natural light-Mediterranean style. Adding another layer of luxury are the cream and cadet blue linens contrasted against the Tiffany-green coloured bathroom tiles in the treatment rooms.
