Throughout the years of being known as the only daughter of jazz musician Indra Lesmana and actress/singer Sophia Latjuba, Eva Celia is finally ready to release her first ever single titled “Reason” on April 27th, 2015. Through this song, listeners can ultimately get a small glimpse of her debut album scheduled to be released in September this year.
During the production of her single, Eva firmly decided to work independently without any kind of engagement to record labels. She acts as the Executive Producer and also Producer together with musician, Tendra Leonard. Her decision to produce this record independently was instigated by the desire of wanting to gain the experience and lessons needed to become a better songwriter. “Regardless of my decision to do this record alone, I have been and always will be a fan of my father’s work and I still want him to be a part of this. Naturally, an interesting dialogue occurs between me and his mini moog solo at the end of the song”.
Other than the mini moog, Indra Lesmana also played the rhodes and hammond that act as a sweet adornment to the song.
So this song is sort of a unique combination of all that and I really hope it will be a refreshment in everyone’s ears.
Eva indicated that the lyrics are written in English. “Since I was little, I have always enjoyed Indonesian literature such as Ananta toer’s; however, I am still incapable of expressing my thoughts eloquently in Bahasa like the way my dad, mom and also my aunt Mira have done it all these years.” The song itself is about a person in her life that inspires her to become a better human being. That being said, she also encourages listeners to have their own interpretation.
In post-production, Eva chose to work with mix engineer Brent Kolatalo (Kanye West, Lana Del Rey) and mastering engineer Tony Dawsey (Jay Z, Whitney Houston). “I want to give the best and only the best for my listeners and these two men will definitely help me achieve that.”
As much as she loves R&B, Soul and Jazz, Eva feels that labeling her song will limit her creativity. “My dad made me listen to a lot of different types of music from Jazz to Rock and there is not one genre that I don’t like. So this song is sort of a unique combination of all that and I really hope it will be a refreshment in everyone’s ears.” In attempt of detaching herself from the musical image that has been given to her by the public, this single is an expression of who Eva Celia truly is.
