Starbucks Indonesia today announced its entry into Papua with the opening of two stores in Jayapura and Abepura – Starbucks Mal Jayapura and Starbucks Abepura. The new stores will offer the signature Starbucks Experience to customers in eastern Indonesia. “Papua is a growing province with the potential to become stronger from an economic to tourism point of view. With the presence of Starbucks in Papua, we hope to continue to expand the Starbucks Experience to more customers throughout Indonesia,” said Anthony McEvoy, leader of PT Sari Coffee Indonesia – the licensee of the Starbucks brand in Indonesia.
“This year we have plans to be present in 10 new cities in Indonesia, and Jayapura is one of them. This is a milestone for the company, also as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Starbucks in Indonesia, and it is hoped that with the opening of this store, Starbucks will be closer to its customers while also contributing to the development of the regional economy and creating jobs for the surrounding community,” he added.
The first store to be opened in Papua is Starbucks Mal Jayapura. Located on the 2nd floor of Jayapura Mall Unit 41B & 42 Jl. Dr. Sam Ratulangi, Bayangkara, Jayapura, this beautiful store with an area of 221 m2 is ready to serve Jayapura coffee lovers and the surrounding community. The store echoes the familiar vernacular of the house of the Dani Tribe from Papua. The architectural characteristics of the Rumah Honai’s simple yet inspiring form – circular layout, conical roof, vertical cladding, and single entrance – have been turned into domestic qualities.
At the center of the space is the bar – with its carving pattern inspired by the barista craft – introducing the Starbucks Experience and welcoming the customers. There’s also nearly 4 meters long community table where customers can have a gathering also circular seats by the bar where they can enjoy their favorite beverages.

The store also completed by an outdoor area where customer can enjoy the city view. A stunning artwork depicts the coffee journey that tells the stories of coffee farming community, barista craft, and the customer connection. The bold and colorful style of the artwork is inspired by the traditional Batik motifs and patterns from Papua – celebrates the local heritage and community and creates an uplifting experience.
Not only in Jayapura, Starbucks also opened its second store in Papua, which is located on Jl. Baru Pasar Lama Abepura, Wai Mhorock, Abepura. Unlike previous outlets located inside a shopping center, Starbucks Abepura store is located in a business area in the heart of the city with a two-storey self-contained building covering an area of 494 m2.
