Camp Sarika at Amangiri sits amidst a sprawling 900-acre expanse of rugged mesas and rust- coloured sands. The backdrop for exploration, the exclusive retreat of just ten spacious tented pavilions, has launched a trio of multi-day Adventures for exhilarating expeditions in the heart of Utah’s canyon country.
Curated by the resort to include a range of must-do experiences, to make the most of every moment, the new three-to-five-night Adventures offer inspiration for deeper discovery and connection with the wild.
Central to these new programmes is The Big Five Adventure, Camp Sarika’s excursion-led answer to Africa’s wildlife focused ‘Big Five.’ Showcasing the diverse ways to explore the destination, the itinerary offers the challenge of via ferrata routes, UTV off-roading through the Utah backcountry and aerial tours of nearby national parks, including Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion.
Starting from July 2024, the four-night, ‘The Big Five Adventure’ fully curated journey includes a series of handpicked experiences:
1. Conquer the Heights: Via Ferrata
Via ferrata (‘iron roads’) offer challenging networks of mountain-laced cables and ladder rungs for adventure lovers to assail. At Camp Sarika, there are various routes to navigate, designed for all abilities and led by an expert guide. Gain unique insight into the area’s captivating geology, hunting for fossils over red-stained cliffs and golden rocks.
2. Navigate the Waters: Boating on Lake Powell
Spend a day on Lake Powell, a vast, rock-carved reservoir in the Colorado River. Aboard the camp’s exclusive Axopar 37 boat, this immersive eight-hour adventure explores the most remote places on the glassine lake, including Wahweap Bay, Padre Bay and the landmark rock formations of Castle Rock and Cookie Jar Butte.
Equipped with paddleboarding, fishing and individual underwater propulsion devices, the boat facilitates all types of aquatic experiences.
3. Journey to the Depths: Canyon Tours
Camp Sarika’s Slot Canyon Tour provides unmatched hiking, tracing the footsteps of ancient explorers over three hours. Led by an experienced local guide, it covers a trio of canyons, taking in Upper Antelope Canyon, Rattlesnake Canyon and Owl Canyon. Weaving through narrow passageways and sculpted sandstone gorges, fresh desert snapshots are revealed with every turn.
4. Marvel at Nature: Aerial Tour of National Parks
Camp Sarika is situated in the Colorado Plateau, a geological marvel boasting the highest concentration of national parks in the US. From this serene base camp, the towering cliffs of Zion, otherworldly landscapes of Bryce Canyon and dramatic depths of the Grand Canyon can all be viewed. But, only from the air are their scale and beauty truly grasped.
A scenic helicopter flight provides a unique bird’s-eye view of this trio of arresting landscapes, with their millennia-carved layers of rock, sand and stone coming to life in a vivid display of colours.
