Bali Promise was launched on the closing day of the World Culture Forum (WCF) in Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Nusa Dua, Tuesday, November 26, 2013.
Minister of Education and Culture Mohammad Nuh closed the forum, with Bali Promise read by international delegations; Audrey Harare Chihota Charamba representing Zimbabwe, Shireen Mohammad Azis representing Iraq, and David Throsby representing Australia.
The decision of naming BALI PROMISE was made on Sunday, November 24 through WCF steering committee meeting, marking the first day of the forum.
Mr. Nuh in his closing thanked to all the participants for their contribution in making the initiative of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono realized. “I’m very delighted to have been able to see all the participants in making World Culture Forum happen. The forum is where we address various issues on the world’s diverse cultures. With the launch of Bali Promise, I put my hope that our common goal to create global sustainable development will be achieved,” the Minister of Education and Culture asserted.
In line with Mr. Nuh’s assortment, Francesco Bandarin, Assistant Director-General for Culture at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, shared his joy of how the WCF is organized.
“UNESCO is very happy to see the outstanding cooperation the government of Indonesia has demonstrated throughout the forum, which is marvelous, harmonic and successful,” Bandarin said adding that he is also happy to see the document (referring to Bali Promise).
“It’s the confirmation of how the cultural development should set the pace. Believe me, this document counts!” he said in the last press conference of the forum.
